ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My analysis of the Nullarbor Nymph Hoax explores the narrative as a fantasy. This opens it to the scrutiny of several psychoanalytic models and the symbolic potential of the Nymph can be explored. I propose that the Nullarbor Nymph functions on an archetypal level. As such, the way people’s interest in the story continues to be activated is significant. Having the sculptures cast in bronze is a powerful way of immortalising these and other ideas so that the narrative will live on forever, giving it a truly mythic dimension. The story will continue to be told in a multitude of ways, with a multitude of different interpretations, ensuring the meaning and value of the narrative mutates to suit the needs of the time.
